ilovetravel Spring Academy 2017

Team building. Team bonding.

Each season, ilovetravel has what we call an “Academy.” This is an all-day event where we learn about the company, future growth and things that matter to us! We spent the day at the YMCA where we participated in seminars, group activities and all things team building. We started our morning with a delicious breakfast spread to help boost everyone’s energy! We had coffee and tea (crucial) that everyone drank out of their #LeaveOnlyFootprints reusable mug, build your own yogurt energy bowls, equipped with chia seeds, granola, coconut clusters and lots of fruit! Our first activity was human bingo! This is an activity where each square has a different question in it and the goal is to find someone who fills the requirement! For example, if the square reads, “Someone who can speak 2+ languages” you need to find someone who speaks two or more languages. You win the game when every square is filled in with a different name! This was an awesome activity to start with because it allowed everyone to meet and mingle with the rest of the team! We’re all about getting to know one another. Team bonding is another important focus, for us! Once everyone was well-acquainted and BINGO was shouted, we began our day!

We started our day with some awesome seminars where staff talked about everything from

our past trip season(s) and how we can improve on making things safe, seamless and epic, to future growth and our vision for the next 5 years! We heard updates from all our brands (S-Trip!, Breakaway Tours and Campus Vacations) and heard some amazing Happy Traveler stories from our winter trip season. Our presenters gave it their all, sharing their experience and knowledge of We <3 Reviews Project, Committed to Youth Initiative and Our S-Trip! Myths page. It’s always so important for us come together outside of the office and hear about what each team is up to and how it contributes to the overall growth of the company. Thanks to all our presenters and leaders for crushing their sections.

After filling our brains with awesomness, we had a delicious meatless and wheatless lunch from Kupfert & Kim! Going meatless and wheatless allowed everyone to enjoy the meal provided, without any restrictions. We are all about #inclusivity! After refueling, we headed to the gym to get our hearts pumping! We think it’s important to incorporate physical activity into the day to keep everyone's minds sharp! We broke into three teams, red, blue and yellow and everyone played soccer, hockey and basketball and finished the activity off with an obstacle course! Team leads from each team had to compete both physically and mentally, answering word problems, scoring goals and making baskets. After team yellow reigned victorious, we continued with several break out sessions where everyone was grouped into teams and learned about different areas of the company and things that are important to us; learning about how reviews change and impact a company, how to better time-manage and organize your day, and and issues committed to youth. We are very team-oriented at I Love Travel and we think it’s important to put a focus on working and growing together. Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

S-Trip! Lunch Club!

#ThisIsLunchClub #LunchOfALifetime

This month’s lunch club was S-Trip! themed, getting everyone excited and ready for trip season! We take thousands of students away each year for March Break, so we always feel like it’s extra important to make sure everyone has the information they need and the tools to CRUSH IT! We filled everyone’s bellies with delicious “build your own” tacos/burritos and filled their minds with knowledge!! Here at I Love Travel, we are constantly working together to improve and better our trips! We are passionate about safety and inclusivity while creating the #TripOfALifetime!

We have adjusted our grad gala to be more of a standing award ceremony, thanking the students and organizers for all of their hard work/planning and traveling with us! We have also introduced new roles to help run and execute seamless events and activities! We’ve added the role of “Experience Coordinator”, who will work closely with our emcee, ensuring all the events, excursions and activities are as EPIC as possible! Last but certainly not least, we continue to work on our volunteer projects! We take great pride in giving back to the country or community we are visiting; from fixing schools to building community centres, we know how important (and rewarding!!!) it is to be able to share this experience with our travelers.

After getting hyped for trip season and stuffing our tacos to the brim, we held our very own cake cutting ceremony, ending the meeting with a delicious S-Trip! branded Tres Leches cake! The perfect way to end our Mexican S-Trip! fiesta! We look forward to our 300+ destination staff executing the best experience for our travelers, focusing on safety, seamless operations, inclusivity and excitement. Follow our S-Trip! We Love our #ilovetravelbag

We love to travel. We love to travel light. So, we surprised our staff with the PERFECT Travel Bag!

When traveling light you need the perfect travel bag! After years of looking our CEO and founder Alex Handa found the perfect travel bag (this specific bag has been discontinued from MEC).

At our Winter Academy our staff was surprised with the perfect #ilovetravelbag. The goal for this bag is to accompany all of us on our work and personal adventures. We have taken the pledge to travel light and be conscious of our travel footprint and this means packing only a carry-on whenever possible.

In conjunction with our other #LeaveOnlyFootprints pledge we will continue to travel with our SIGG reusable water bottle and JOCO Travel Cup! We want to reduce the amount of waste and reuse whenever possible on all our travels. We hope to inspire all the youth and young adults we travel to reuse, recycle, travel often and travel light!

Serbian Lunch Club & Eugene's Birthday!

Serbian food, awards and birthday celebrations!

Our #1 passion is Travel but food is a close second. We feel that sharing a meal, ethnic eats and diverse dishes is such an amazing way to come together as a company, which is why, for years we’ve been hosting lunch clubs. Our Lunch Club this month was in honour of Eugene accepting an award for “Best Youth Tour Operator 2016” on I Love Travel’s behalf at the  Global Youth Travel Awards held in Belgrade, Serbia this year! These awards  are all about celebrating excellence in youth, student and educational travel. It’s always been our focus and passion to create exciting and memorable trips so winning this award means a lot to us here at I Love Travel! This Lunch Club was also extra special because we celebrated our fearless leader, Eugene’s birthday! We all got a taste of true Serbian cuisine like, Ćepavi, Prebranac, Shopska Salad and of course chowed down on birthday cake! Eugene talked about the electric vibe, what it was like being there and accepting the award with Toby Paramor from Stoke Travel. We even had a Serbian native, Vlad, attend the Lunch Club, who gave his stamp of approval on the food! (He also verified our “25 Serbian facts” presentation.. Luckily they were all legit--phew!) We had Eugene’s friends and family join us for the celebration; everyone was in great spirits and left our Lunch Club happy, full and able to answer trivia questions about Serbia--go ahead, ask me who’s the largest raspberry exporter in the world! It’s Serbia! Producing over 30% of the total! You can check out the yummy eats, award and celebration in the photos below! Make sure you’re following us at @JobofaLifetime so you never miss a moment!

Après Ski Bring The Fun O'Clock

For years we’ve been having monthly Bring the Fun O’Clocks but last Friday at I Love Travel, our goal was to kick it up a notch! Bring The Fun O’Clock (BTFO for short) is all about creating that “I already love what I do but this is awesome I can’t believe this is my job and I get to work with these awesome people everyday” atmosphere. Normally, we order yummy pizza and have a couple drinks after work, which is already totally sweet. But in order to spice it up it meant, picking an awesome theme and running with it. This month our theme was SnowJam Apres Ski (think previous SnowJam themes like, Lumber Jack & Jill, Yeti Sleepover, Snow Pants or No Pants and Campus Pride) and general “after ski” attire. That being said, we couldn’t have an awesome themed party without some delicious themed food! Plenty of fruit and veg, we try to eat healthy whenever possible, fresh meats and cheese (lots of cheese--think cheese fondue heaven) and of course, chocolate fondue for dessert! All the staff in the office put on their snow suit, onesies or Snow Jam gear, grabbed their #LeaveOnlyFootprints reusable mugs and welcomed the weekend Apres Ski style! We saw killer Yeti Sleepover pyjamas (lookin’ at you Luigi Dubria), people who know how to accessorize to the max (Jay Hamilton ft. a REAL snowboard) and some real tight (pun intended) ski onesies (Eugene Winer)! Our SnowJam team is heading into their third weekend of trips across Canada including Tremblant, Whistler and Panorama so it’s only natural we held a BTFO in their honour. For more great pictures and videos from SnowJam, check out SnowJam Facebook  and follow us on Instagram @JobofaLifetime & @CVSnowJam!
